Speech Therapist

My interest, experience and my passion are in pediatric therapy.  Communication, whether verbal or nonverbal, is essential.  I believe in a team approach where therapists and parents work together with the child to develop his/her speech and language skills.  I love being a part of the process, providing the child with the skills necessary to successfully express his/her thoughts and needs.  This power of communication allows the child improved functioning in all areas of life.

"Upon our children — how they are taught — rests the fate — or fortune — of tomorrow's world."
B. C. Forbes

I believe children are our future and the future rests in our hands. Children need to be encouraged to reach their full potential as independent individuals in school, home and throughout their lives. I believe as an occupational therapist it is my goal to assist children to improve themselves as a whole person: specifically assisting with visual motor, fine and gross motor, sensory processing and self help skills to facilitate each child’s unique needs. I have an extensive experience with adults and children and physical impairments, Down Syndrome, developmental delay and Autism as well as, Handwriting without Tears, Therapeutic Listening and sensory integration techniques. It is a pleasure and honor to become a part of each child’s future and a privilege to assist with their process towards independence.

Speech Therapist

My desire to work in therapy was driven by my calling to help people. I enjoy helping children learn new skills to be successful in school, at home, and in the community. I am dedicated to my work because I believe in practicing to improve on our goals, as well as involving the family to carryover the use of those skills. Children are fun to work with because as a therapist I can make the learning fun – with games, functional activities, songs, etc. It is great to see the kids smile at what we do and all the while learning.

Occupational Therapist

I practice occupation-based, child-centered occupational therapy using play that is purposeful and meaningful to my clients. I believe that each child is a unique individual with specific needs and it is important to find the "just-right challenge" for each session, always listening to the concerns of the parents to determine treatment goals. I also believe in collaboration with all the professionals who work with the child to help them reach their full potential.

Speech Therapist

I've always known that I wanted to help people. However, it wasn't until I participated in a research-intervention project with Michigan State University's ARTIFICIAL LANGUAGE LABORATORY that I realized Speech Therapy was the direction I was destined to go. I have worked with all age groups, specializing in both Speech and Language intervention and diagnostics, fluency techniques, voice therapy, augmentative communication aides, swallowing-feeding techniques and home-parent intervention. I find my job extremely rewarding knowing I make a lasting difference for each child and their family.

Occupational Therapist

As long as I can remember I have always wanted to work with children. I knew I wanted to be an occupational therapist the summer I turned 17 years old. I "nannied" for a family with a 12 year old boy with cerebral palsy. I took him to all his therapies and fell in love with this profession. I love that as a pediatric OT I get to work within so many different areas of development and help foster a child's maximum potential. I feel my most basic goal as an OT is to assist in facilitating independence within the child I am treating. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child fill with pride when they acquire a new skill and increase their independence. I am grateful to be a part of that process.

Occupational Therapist

Since high school I always knew I wanted to be involved with a helping profession. Through various experiences while trying to decide on a major, I fell in love with the idea of Occupational Therapy and helping people get back to their daily activities. Through the years I have worked with various populations – adults and kids; mental health to physical impairments. I’ve received extensive training in behavioral techniques and enjoy learning about sensory processing. I’m happiest when I am able to work with children, and I’m excited to be part of the First Choice Therapy Center Team.

Occupational Therapist

I have a natural innate love and appreciation of children. Thus my adult professional career has been dedicated to enriching and contributing to their growth and development. As a pre-kindergarten teacher and a developmental specialist with Early Intervention I was introduced to the field of occupational therapy. The general philosophy of occupational therapy; using meaningful activity as the therapeutic medium to encourage growth, development, and/or rehabilitation; resonated with my approach. And when I was introduced to the theory of sensory integration I wanted to learn more. I continued my studies so that I could practice as an occupational therapist. I felt that I had something special to contribute to children with special needs. Ongoing study both clinically and through continuing education seminars has deepened my commitment to using my experience and credentials to help children be the best that they can be, comfortable in their bodies, and successful within their communities.
