I’ve always known I wanted to help people. However, it wasn’t until I participated in a research-intervention project with Michigan State University’s ARTIFICIAL LANGUAGE LABORATORY that I realized speech therapy was the direction I was destined to go. Through this extensive training I gained specific techniques to elicit effective, functional communication that is essential for any individual to independently participate in all aspects of life. I have provided speech-language services to children ages preschool through adolescence. My experience includes assessment and treatment of children with developmental delays; fluency, voice, phonologic and articulation (including the correction of tongue thrust swallow pattern), and language disorders; apraxia and dysarthria of speech (implementation of oral-motor techniques); communication disorders associated with autism; and the use of augmentative communication aides. I am a provider of “Speech Buddies” created by Articulate Technologies, Inc. In addition, I have worked as a speech-language therapist in a rehabilitative setting with adults exhibiting dysphagia, aphasia, traumatic brain injury, and degenerative disease. I continue to educate myself on current therapeutic issues and techniques through annual seminars and workshops. My job is extremely rewarding, and I take pride in working hard to make a lasting difference for each child and his/her family.
