Julie, B.S., OTR/L Occupational Therapist
As long as I can remember I have always wanted to work with children. I knew I wanted to be an occupational therapist the summer I turned 17 years old. I “nannied” for a family with a 12-year-old boy with Cerebral Palsy. I brought him to all his therapy sessions and fell in love with this profession. As a pediatric OT, I love working with many different areas of development to help foster a child’s maximum potential. I feel my most basic goal as an OT is to assist in facilitating independence within the child I am treating. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child fill with pride when he or she acquires a new skill and increases his/her independence. I am grateful to be a part of that process, and it is a privilege to be entrusted by families with the precious gift of their son or daughter. Throughout the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to work with amazing children facing a wide range of challenges including Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Handwriting Delays, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Delays. I continue to educate myself by reading and enrolling in therapy-oriented courses to stay on top of industry information. This enables me to make the time I spend with children therapeutic and meaningful to the child and the family.
